May 5, to the Relay Heights, Flk-ridge Landing, Md., and during its termof service occupied several positions onand around Baltimore, protecting that cityas well as the railroad to Harpers Ferry,and that to Washington. While on guard, was accidentally shot,causing a wound, which though not seri-ous, rendered him ineligible for re-enlist-ment, upon his return from the threemonths .service, he being rejected. Sanborn was born at Ports-I month, N. H., December 11, 1833. Whena young man he enlisted in the navy serv-ing fovir 3ears, and upon the expirationof his term of enlistment, located inBoston, where he learned the trade of amason. At the first call of PresidentI^incoln for troops to protect the Capital,he enlisted April 20, 1861, in the FirstMassachusetts Battery, known as theBoston Light Artillery under Capt. Asa , for three months. At the expira-tion of his term of service, he returned toBoston, re-enlisting August 25, 1862 in theEleventh Massachusetts Batter}-, as asergeant under Captain Edward J.
