Thefirst day we drove out to the Pyramids and rode on donkeysaround them and the Sphinx, but I was so timid I have had. CAIRO to give up an excursion to-day where I would have had toride a donkey five hours, and I am resting to-day. YesterdayClifford and I went alone to the citadel and some mosquesand the Tombs of the Mamelukes. As elsewhere in the Arabquarter filth and misery reign supreme. The people are toolazy to wash their faces and the flies around the eyes of theyoung children are a disgusting sight. Elias came yesterday with his own carriage and took usto the great Museum and to the Bazaars, and I metBrugsch Bey at the Museum. The Fowlers had a letter toChaka Bey, who has charge of the Railways and between CONSTANTINOPLE, THE HOLY LAND AND EGYPT the two we are invited to go to a swell wedding this eve-ning. We are to stop at the Elias house en route. Out atthe Pyramids I meant to mention the Mena Hotel, amost beautiful hotel, with every comfort, on the veryedge of the Desert.
