Leipzig Central Station voted German Railway Station 2011. With a size of approximately 84,000 m2, Leipzig's train station is the largest terminal station in Europe and one of 20 stations in the highest category of DB Station & Service. More than 100,000 commuters, travellers and visitors arrive or leave from here every day. The station with its 300-metre city-facing front was officially opened on 4 December 1915. During the second half of the 1990s, it was extensively renovated and a shopping centre comprising two underground levels and more than 140 stores was built below the concourse.
