Car production line at the Volkswagen Transparent Factory, Dresden, Germany. This factory, opened in 2001, was built to make the luxury Phaeton car model. The production line combines automation and manual craftmanship to ensure high standards of construction. Customers and tourists can tour the factory and watch the construction of the cars in clean, quiet areas with wooden floors and natural lighting. These workers are fastening components to a car that is on a conveyor belt on a raised platform and held by an overhead carrier. Both of these systems allow the car to be rotated, raised and lowered as needed to fit the components.
