Male corporate workers in New York City
A company man in a grey suit is engrossed in a converstion on his cell phone as he crosses the street in midtown Manhattan. According to new data from the Fiscal Policy Institute men in the 35 - 54 age group in New York City have lost jobs faster than any other group. These are predominantly white males who before a bad economy and a crisis in confidence in our corporations were secure in their jobs. This epidemic of unemployent for these men has given birth to the term BWMs : Beached White Males, men who had the job, the office, the bonus and who are now unemployed. From the financial meltdown in 2007 up until now numbers of unemployed white men have more than doubled to a million ( not including sales jobs which add 300,000 ) Wall Street and the broader world of buisness has layed off another 300,000 from their trading desks and cubicle farms. These statistics indicate that for company men like these, their job is no longer guaranteed. These men could be an endangered species.
