Artwork of 4 Inmarsat-3 communication and navigation satellites in orbit, with coloured circles showing the area on Earth covered by transmissions beamed from each one. The Inmarsat 3 satellites are located in equatorial geostationary orbits. They are used to relay sig- nals from mobile telephones. They also form part of the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service (EGNOS). EGNOS complements the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites by producing transmissions which ground-based receivers can use to calculate their position.
