Brandhoek Cemetery is famous in as much that it was a casually clearing station where Medical Officer Capt Noel Chavasse served and is buried the most decorated soldier of the First World War being awarded two Victoria Crosses, killed during the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917 known as Passchendaele. There is a statue of Noel Chavasse at St Georges Hall in Liverpool
