A Saami man puts on his traditional Saami winter shoes, made of reindeer fur and filled with dried, insulating grass, in the family kitchen in Kautokeino, Norway. The man's pants are also made of reindeer fur, and the purpose of the red bindings around the lower parts of his legs is to prevent the snow from getting into the shoes. Kautokeino, which is mainly inhabited by ethnic Saami, is a Nordic centre of Saami culture.
