Jaundice. Close-up of the yellowing of the white (sclera) of the eye of an 81-year-old woman suffering from drug-induced jaundice. Jaundice is not a disease in itself, but is a symptom of many disorders of the liver and biliary system. Jaundice caused by drugs, which are treating other conditions, requires constant medical attention. The yellowing is caused by an excess of bilirubin, a bile pigment, in the blood.
