Hungary, Budapest - view over Salkaházi Sára rakpart, The Bálna (the beached whale of Budapest) has been under construction since early 2009 and though it was more or less finished by 2011, various complications put off. Its flashing blue lasers have been plaguing the nightscape of Budapest for a while, but it has now also been confirmed that the skies will be rid of it from here on out. The building, designed by Dutch architect Kas Oosterhuis and Ilona Lénárd’s firm, incorporates two turn-of-the-century warehouses on the quay into a conjoining glass shell shaped like a whale’s head.
