The Slavonic figure pictured here date to around 1550 and represents a man from Strelitz unit, or a Streltsy. Streltsy were units of Russian guardsmen, armed with firearms, first organized by Ivan the Terrible between 1545 and 1550. Slavs lived chiefly in eastern and southeastern Europe. The illustration dates to 1882.
