Pipeline discharging industrial effluent into the North Sea at Hartlepool, Cleveland. The outfall comes from the Steetley Refractories chemical plant which produces heat-resistant magnesium- oxide-based powders by reacting dolomitic limestone with sea water. The area is also covered with white powdery deposits emitted from the factory's chimney.
