Lt. Holliday, Chaplain of the 166th Regiment Infantry, conducts last rites for Pvt. Dyer J. Byrd, the first American soldier in the 42nd Division killed in the St. Clement sector. Byrd was killed at a listening post by a German raiding party after warning his comrades about their approach. The incident occurred in Domjevin, France on March 3, 1918.
