J.—Geo. C. Perliins, of Jaclcson & Perkins Co., returned from Europe September 11, on the S. S. La Savoie. Mr. Perkins made a tour of the nursery sections of France and reports that the season has been rather unfavorable; the spring being very cold and backward, and being followed by a long drought which continued well into the summer. Rains during the middle of August somewhat improved the situation, but in general the growing season has been less favorable than any which has occurred during the last several years. Privet Prices. ED. AMERICAN Florist: — I wish you would ask the question in your paper: "What is the proper price for Amoor River privet, alsa California privet, to the retail trade?" We have an "amateur" florist and nurseryman here who is selling Amoor River privet at $3 per 100 to the re- tail trade. I am selling some at $6 per 100 and where I send a man to plant out I charge $, which I thought very reasonable.
