They have not deemed it judicious in anymarked degree to change the current of usefulness throughwhich the institution has been accomplishing much good forthe past nineteen years. They have tried to guard the sys-tem, hitherto in use, from any innovations which would tendto impair its efficacy, and that work, light perhaps as it mayhave been, has been all that they in their official positioncould do with safety. We have had a better year, more satisfactory in its re-sults, than 1862. The Library has had a larger number ofsubscribers in the aggregate, and more new subscribers. Alarger number of volumes, by
