Jake Beautyman installs solar panels on a barn roof on Grange farm, near Balcombe. The installation is part of an initiative by local residents in Balcombe to encourage more people to use renewable energy rather than energy based on carbon such as fracking. The initiative is called Repowerbalcombe and is supported by the charity 10:10. Balcombe village in West Sussex was in 2013 the battle ground for and against fracking with the first test site set up by the fracking company Quadrilla. After months of protest Quadrilla stopped drilling but is planning to return if and when a new license to drill has been granted. Repowerbalcombe wants to stop the drilling and want to show the way to alternative energy forms such as solar.
