Scales not ( rowiled anteriorly, evenly distributed over body; lateral line shaped like till' contour of body, except above pectoral lin, where it is sharply ( ; dorsal inserted directly above vential, first ray highest, nearly :; times height of last; when depressed, tlu' fin is falcate; Avhen elevated, it> eilgo is concav(!; anal similar in shape; ciiudal deeply forked, the tips slKirji; ventrals pointed, not reaching vent; ]tect(>ral slijihtly rounded. Color silvery; darker above, especially on median dorsal area, where a mole or less dusky baud extends the length of the body; rays of dorsal tin and tips of caudal dusky; lower fins white.
