R. R. Station. Thecompany, like the others in town, has hadits long and honorable history, and, asnow equipped with house and apparatus,holds a proud position for efficiency. The history of Protection dates backinto the early nineteenth century. It issaid that there are records of it as earlyas 181 7. It IS well established, however,that Protection existed prior to 1 830, whenit was located on George Street near theSecond Reformed Church. In 1843 thecompany moved to George and SomersetStreets where now are the steps leadingto the east bound platform of the Pennsyl-vania Railroad station. The building ad-joined the old Hotel Central. Like the other companies in the started out with a hand it entered the city department, thecompany secured a steamer, a Hop en-gine,
