This conferencewas attended by a large delegation from all the leading colleges of the state, andfrom a number of the high schools. The conference was led by Dr. W. D. Weather-ford of Nashville, Tennessee. Among the other distinguished leaders were MessrsC. G. Hounshel of New York, Harris Masterson a returned missionary from China,and Will H. Nelson, secretary of the Young Mens Christian Association at Mis-sissippi A. and M.

But whatever may have been the success of the Association this year, it isnot due to the officials, but to the support and co-operation of the members of theAssociation, other students, and the faculty. Our Association is very fortunate inhaving at all times, the sympathy, interest, best wishes, and support of the Juter-OIfllkgtat? Sebates THE Mississippi Normal College, established for the purpose of training youngpeople for leadership, piaces a premium upon initiative and independent work onthe part of each student, as very essental means of development. In their workin the literary societies, as in other organizations, the students work without much helpfrom the faculty. As a preparation for public occasions the students have preliminary contestswhich have a two-fold value. They offer to the whole membership an opportunity to tryfor a place on the debating team; and they give those winning places on the team train-ing for a battle of the wits, and familarity in handling the subject. This plan bringsmuch better results than the usual one followed, that of being coached by a professor. Among the interesting features of the years work are the inter-society years ago, however, the Prestonian and Platonian Literary Societies, /recognizingstimulus that an inter-collegi
