Foundry Buildings, T. Sheldon & Company, Wolverhampton, late 20th cent. An original photograph of the foundry buildings of the company bounding the Birmingham Main Line Canal at Spring Vale. Founded in 1853 in Ladymoor by Thomas Sheldon, this company were originally iron founders, but also produced enamelled and tinned cast-iron holloware including culinary utensils, legged pots, camp ovens, Dutch stoves, kettles, saucepans and cups. Due to mining operations, the company moved to the Spring Vale Foundry premises in Ettingshall Road around 1878. In the same year, Thomas Sheldon died and the business was taken over by his son-in-law Joseph Millington. The company at this time employed around 200 people. They also produced holloware for the export market until at least the 1890s.
