C, 15 Twisse. ^ Richard Lennard was descended from thesecond marriage of Lord Barrets great - grandmother, Elizabeth,daughter of Thomas Dinely, wife, first, of George Barret, and secondly,of Sir John Baker, of Sissinghurst, co. Kent, Knight. He was Sheriff ofEssex 1679, and died at Belhus 1696. His great-grandson, ThomasBarrett-Lennard, seventeenth Lord Dacre, left the estate of Belhus tohis illegitimate son, afterwards Sir Thomas Barrett-Lennard, firstBaronet. DOUGLAS, VISCOUNT BELHAVEN. OBERT DOUGLAS, of Spott, in the county ofHaddington, tliird son ofMalcolm Douglas ofMains, was Page-of-lion-our to Henrj, Prince ofWales, and afterwardsMaster of the Horse. Hewas knighted at White-hall 7 February the death of PrinceHenry iu 1G12, he wasappointed by King Jamesto be one of the Gentle-men of the Bedchamber,and was sworn a PrivyCouncillor on 5 August1622. He was coutiuued in his office by King Charles i.,by whom he was re - appointed to the Privy Council9 June 1631.^ He had charters under the Great Seal ofan annualrent out of the lordships of Torthorwald andCarlyle 14 July 1612 and 3 June 1613, of the lordshipof Torthorwald 11 September 1617, of the lands of Spott,and office of chamberlain and bailie of the lordship ofDunbar, united into a free barony of Spott 24 April 1624,^and of certain
