A small fleet of moored red fishing trawlers and other river craft on the River Esk at Whitby fishing port, in North Yorkshire, Britain Whitby, a seaside town and small fishing port is on the north Yorkshire coast, facing the North Sea in Britain. Whitby is associated with Royal Navy Captain James Cook, voyager and discoverer of Australia and New Zealand where he learned his seamanship in the harbour, the horror novel of Dracula and the famous Whitby Jet black and alum found in the surrounding cliffs.
