The court was deserted andsilent ; tall slender trees, tufted shrubbery, werebright with the loveliest green. A dazzling sun-light fell on the red tiles of the gallery ; an oldfountain, loaded with little columns and heads ofanimals, murmured near to a bench of rose-veinedmarble.
