Gradually Market street west to Sansome be-came the point of juncture of two immense , other great fires came down the south sideof Market street to meet them. The Palace Hotel,world-famous, stood between. Early in the morning a fire at the power sta-tion on Stevenson street, in the shadow of the CallBuilding, and but a short distance beyond the Pal-ace, had eaten its way toward Fourth, then on eitherside to Mission and to Market, following the line ofleast resistance — the line of flimsy, wooden con-struction.
