BOSTON. Tlie Market. • Little business in cut flowers is being done at present. The number of ship- ments being received is small, and qual- ity is at its usual low midsummer ebb. Markets have a half-deserted appear- ance and during July and August they might just as well close at noon the whole week as Saturday only. Boses are of inferior quality. Excep- tions are some fairly good Francis Scott Key and Kaiserin. Such varieties as Ophelia, Killarney and White Killarney are now of little value. Carnations con- tinue to grow fewer and poorer. The variety Morning Glow asserts its su- premacy over all others at this time, while Matchless proves a good hot weather variety. Sweet peas are not of good quality, most of them selling at 50 cents to $1 per hundred. Some nice sweet sultans came in and sold fairly well, better than bachelor's buttons. There is a good supply of white Lilium speciosum at $6 to $8 per hun- dred. L. giganteum brings a little more. Gladioli are less abundant and are yet all from indoors. Few outdoor ones will be J^vailable before August. Hardy gypsophila sells well, especially the dou- ble variety. Larkspurs are on the wane, but water lilies take their place for win- dow decorations. The few available cat- tleyas are Gaskelliana and gigas, with prices ranging from 75 cents to $ per flower. There is a moderate sale only for aspara
