'Windjana' rock, Mars rover image. This sandstone rock was the target of NASA's Curiosity Mars rover in April and May 2014. On 29 April and 5 May, the rover used its robotic arm to drill samples from this rock. Around 60 centimetres across, this rock was the mission's third drilled rock and the first that was not mudstone. After the hole was drilled, the rover used its ChemCam's laser to analyse the composition of the interior. The Chemistry and Mineralogy instrument (CheMin) and the Sample Analysis at Mars instrument (SAM) are also being used to analyse the drilled rock samples. Image obtained by the rover's Mast Camera (Mastcam) on 23 April 2014.
