The "Iron Road" from the site of Rosedale Chimney

From Roman times this area was used for mining iron ore. Locomotives would pull wagon loads of ore over the moors to an incline where they would be let down by cable for transfer to an iron works for smelting. My father as a young man used to cycle this track and said it was always known as the Iron Road. Nearby was the famous Rosedale Chimney.
