Remains of the town of Waiuta. The town prospered in the early 1900s when gold was discovered. Waiuta was abandoned from 1953 when a shaft collapsed.

Remains of old and restored structures at Waiuta Ghost Town near Reefton on New Zealands South Island. Waiuta is now in the capable hands of the Department of Conservation (DOC). The site was part of a gold rush that started in 1905. Gold production stopped in 1951 when the Blackwater Shaft collapsed. Repairs were uneconomic and so the mine closed leaving the miners unemployed and forced to abandon the town to seek work elsewhere.
