A Goose Bield above Levers Water in The Coniston fells of lakeland


A Goose Bield also known as a Fox Field was most probably used to trap foxes rather than to keep geese in. Originally the inside walls were tapered towards the top a goose placed inside to entice to fox which would then not be able to escape. That's the theory anyway.
