SuccESSEXJL men in any line of business are prone to a malady called '' swell ; "Prid6 goeth before a fall," and those who prosper should try to pre- serve their sense of proportion. It isn't so much the price of coal as the execrable quality of much of it that gets the growers' goat. Will someone tell us how we can, individually, do something to right the situation t There is every reason to believe the spring demand will consume all the good bedding stock that is ready in time, but don't sacrifice quality to obtain quan- tity. Grow it good and ask a fair price. The Italian ruscus arrived several weeks later than usual this year, with the result that those who dye this ma- terial the Christmas red are working to capacity, with every prospect that the demand will exceed the supply. Business is good in practically all de- partments of the trade, many going so far as to say that, while prices are lower than in the boom years, the volume of merchandise moved is exceeding all previ- ous records. The one general complaint is of slow collections and it seems prob- able that some time must elapse before ground lost can be recovered. Betailers who like to attract the pub- lic's eye by timely window displays could assist in a worthy cause, while they are adver
