Reconstruction of an ancient Greek marble metrological relief from Aegaena, Western Turkey, 460 - 450 BC. This pediment-shaped relief, may have hung above the entrance to the weights and measures office in the marketplace of the city. Each feature, the hand span, foot and arm cut-out represents different units of measurement. A similar relief was found on the island of Salamis, near Athens. Metrology is the science of measurement.
