Lokvica (SLO). On the path that climbs up to mount Cerje one can see a peculiar well, called 'stirna' by the Karst inhabitants. The 'stirna' was built two hundred years ago in a small doline, next to the village. Its bottom and its concentric walls were made waterproof using clay. The well gathered rain-water and people could take it descending the stone stairs. After the conquest of Gorizia, Lokvica became part of the Austrian defence line in the Slovenian Karst. The well was used then by the troops for their water provisioning.
