Aviation in Britain Before the First World War An observation balloon before being inflated by a group of soldiers. To the left of the balloon can be seen the gas cylinders containing the hydrogen which gave the balloon lift. Also on the ground are the ballast bags that would be attached to the basket. The image is slightly under exposed. The photograph is very similar to RAE-O 820.
