One day before the 21st anniversary of the suicide terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center (WTC) American flags placed at the engraved names of victims of the 9/11attacks at the North Pool 9/11 memorial. The North Pool is one of two pools at the site of WTC one and two. The WTC in lower Manhattan, near Wall Street was a complex of buildings overlooking the Hudson River. The best-known buildings called the Twin Towers, opened in 1973 and were the world’s tallest buildings at the time of their completion. On 11 Sept 2001 al-Qaeda affiliated terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger airplanes, two Boeing 767 airplanes were forced to fly into the towers. The towers collapsed killing 2,753 people, other buildings on the 16-acre complex collapsed or were severely damaged. The North and South Pools, on the site of the towers are inscribed with the names of the People who died during the attack and collapse. The South Pool includes names of passengers on hijacked Flight 77 that crashed at the Pentagon in Arlington Virginia and flight 93 which crashed in Shanksville Pennsylvania. The two waterfalls and bronze parapets that make up the memorial on the site of the towers were designed by architects Michael Arad and Peter Walker, completed 11 September 2011.
