Intermaxillaryseparation may happen. in non-infected fractures three or four weeks is sufficient forunion. Even in infected fractures good results will often beobtained, if restoration of the facial contour is obtained by re-placement of fragments. It is usually unwise to remove com-minuted bone pieces, even if deprived of periosteum, in the earlystages of treatment, because the facial structures show greatvitality.
