The diamond ring effect seen during a partial phase of the total solar eclipse which occurred on October 24th 1995. This effect may be seen just before or after the totality when only a tiny fragment of the solar disc seems to flare out for a few seconds. The solar corona is visible as a white-yellow halo around the solar disc; it is a region of low density and very high temperature (about 1 million Kelvin). The solar corona is usually undetectable due to the overwhelming brightness of the inner region of the solar atmosphere known as the photosphere.
