Calverts men landed on the point made by thecoming together of the waters of the Chesapeake Bay andthe Potomac River, and occupied an abandoned Indianvillage which they called St. Marys, making a palllzadoof 120 yards square with four flankes. Here they mountedone piece of ordnance and six murderers. Their relationswith the Indians were friendly, but Captain Claibornestrading station on Kent Island, east of the present Annap-olis and south of Baltimore, soon raised question of juris-diction, and in a naval engagement Claibornes mensurrendered.
