Clashes erupt near the Beit Hanoun crossing in northern Gaza during a public rally in protest at US' end to UNRWA funding. The protest started peacefully and was organised by Higher National Commission of Great March of Return and Breaking of Siege. Some demonstrators were injured by live bullets and tear gas used by the Israeli forces. UNRWA was set up in 1949 to support hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who fled or were driven from their homes after the creation of Israel. Since then the organisation has been providing refugees with access to food, education, healthcare, social services

UNRWA was set up in 1949 to support hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who fled or were driven from their homes after the creation of Israel. Since then the organisation has been providing refugees with access to food, education, healthcare, social services and employment in their refugee camps in the occupied territories but also in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. Gaza is already suffering from a dire humanitarian situation caused by the Israeli blockade and UNRWA's reduced funding will have a severe impact on the impoverished strip where over two third of the population are refugees
