In section 14, T. 4 S., R. 3 E., 12 milessoutheast of Livermore on the ridge northeast of the Arroyo Mocho at anelevation of 1750 feet. On the surface there is a large outcrop of jasperheavily stained with manganese. Several open cuts have been made, the largest of which is about 10 feet deep and 10 to 12 feet in diameter, from which considerable ore was taken, and at the bottom of which isexposed a ledge of good ore. About 40 feet below this a tunnel wasdriven, from which some fairly good ore was taken. This tunnel wascontinued for some fifty feet, but failed to strike the main ore body in s:mm. ALAMEDA COUNTY. 25 the cut mentioned above, as it appears to be driven too low and toofar to one side. A car load, about 50 tons, of ore was shipped in 1917and 1918 by Mr. Young on a royalty basis and there is at present (May,1919) about 15 tons of ore at the mine. The ore was hauled down theside of the hill on a sled and dumped into a small bunker, from whichit was loaded directly into a truck. Has not been worked for severalmonths. The ore is a porous black oxide, associated with the jasperand shale of the Franciscan series. The general strike of the bed isnorth and south and the dip 50° to the east. John Berendiere of Liver-more is owner. Bibl.: Bull. 76, p. 25. Black Jack Mine is in the same section as the above BerendiereMine, adjoining it on the southeast. It was first opened in 1885 andsome small shipments made. This deposit is described by E. C. Harderas follows: The country rock is jasper, thin layered and separatedby seams of shale. The ja
