The geometry of the building is composed of back-to-back crescents with the main teaching wall facing out across the school fields and the Blackdale plantation. The Academy is constructed with a central steel spine and cross-laminated timber external walls, floor and roof panels. The external walls are clad with facing brickwork and the internal walls are predominantly dry lined. The new accommodation features a new sports hall, Faraday science, art and design technology workshops, along with a full complement of traditional teaching spaces. The scheme incorporates a district heating system linked to the University of East Anglia, an extensive range of photovoltaic cells on the roof and a limited system for rainwater harvesting to be used as an educational tool.
