Wood structure magnified 15 diameters. detached catkins of empty capsules, 2 ; end Handbook of Tkees of the Northern States and Canada. 75 The Peach-leaf Willow is a handsome anddistinct Willow, sometimes attaining theheight of til) or 70 ft. with straiglit columnartrunk 2 ft. in diameter. When isolated fromother trees it develops a rather narrow roundedtop of upright ami spreading hnmchcs. andwhile the bark of trunk is ridged it is dis-tinctly smoother and with more appressedscales than is that of the Black Uiilow, acharacter especially noticeable on the largerbranches. Its large pendent leaves are quitesuggestive of those of the Peach and Almondtrees and from that fact it receives its company with the Black Willow, withwhich it apparently freely hybridizes, it growsalong the borders of streams and low hike-shores over a large area.
