Metallographic Laboratory at the Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania established in April 1918. The laboratory conducted cooperative work with the Ordnance Department of the US Army to examine metals and alloys used in ordnance. Laney and Prof. Charles Y. Clayton from the University of Missouri were involved in the work, directed by Dr. Cottrell.
