It will simplify matters if the flow pipes as well as the returns are given a slight fall, and if the expansion tank is connected with the highest part of the system. ONE HOUSE NOW, ANOTHER SOON. Please describe the correct way of piping a greenhouse 30x154, a sketch of which I am enclosing. I shall use a Moninger steam boiler, placing it at the north end of the house. There is a 3- foot concrete wall at the sides and the south end. The height to the ridge is ten feet. The side walls are five feet high, having two feet of glass above the concrete. The house is exposed to the winds on all sides. What size of boiler will be needed for two houses of these dimensions? J, K.—111. To heat a greenhouse 30x154, with two feet of glass in each side wall, to 60 degrees, using low pressure steam, we would suggest the use of about 1,000 square feet of radiation. This may be obtained either by running a 214-inch overhead main about three feet below the ridge or by using three l^^-inch flow pipes, placing one on each plate and the other under the ridge. In addi- tion we would use fourteen l^^-inch re- turns, placing four under each of the side benches or on the side walls and the others under the middle benches. While this will only furnish 1,000 square feet of radiation for one house, we would prefer to have the boiler show a rating of 2,400 square feet for the two houses. Quincy, 111.—Sho
