After leav-ing college, Mr. Rus-sell read law in theoffice of Henry He subse-quently entered the Harvard Law School, and was admitted to the bar in1839. He practised law with Mr. Fuller as partner fortwo years, and then opened an office for himself; andin 1845 he and his brother formed the firm of C. T. &:T. H. Russell, which still exists. In addition to theoriginal partners, the firm now includes Mr. Russellstwo sons, Charles T., Jr., and William , and hisnephew, Arthur H. Up to 1855, Mr. Russell lived inBoston, and then remo\ed to Cambridge, where he now. CHARLES THEODORE RUSSELL resides. He is deeply interested in politics, and ineconomic and historical matters. He was a member ofthe House of Representatives from Boston in 1844,1845, and 1850, of the Senate from Suffolk County in1851 and 1852, and from the county of Middlesexin 1877 and 1878. He was mayor of Cambridge in 1861and 1862. He has been a professor in the Law Schoolof Boston L^niversity from its foundation. He was formany years a leading member of the Board of Visitors of the TheologicalInstitution at An-dover, as well as itssecretary. He is amember of the Amer-ican Board of ForeignMissions ; of theAmerican OrientalSociety; of the Bos-ton Young MensChristian Associa-tion, of which he wassecond president; ofthe Society for Pro-moting TheologicalEducation amongthe Indians; of Collegeand Educational So-ciety ; president ofthe Board
