Japanese-American sculptor Shinkichi Tajiri created the "Friendship Knot" that is a well-known monument in the Little Tokyo Historic District in Los Angeles, California, USA. The 18-foot-tall ( meters) artwork with its white fiberglass surface was a gift to the city for its bicentennial in 1981. It was made in 1972 and first displayed in the Netherlands where the artist made his home for 53 years until his death in 2009 at the age of 85. The sculpture is located next to a multi-level outdoor shopping center called Weller Court, and within sight of the tall landmark Los Angeles City Hall.
