It has been demonstrated by several of the State Agricultural Experiment Stations and by scores of progressive farmers that chemical manures equal to the best ready-made mix- tures can be made on the farm, without the aid of machinery and at great saving in cost. The different raw materials entering into the composition of fertil- izers are plainly described, and the best commercial sources of supply given. Considerable space is devoted to tried and proved formulas, drawn from the latest scientific researches in America, England, France, and Germany. Simple explanations are also given of some terms in chemical technology used in the State Agricultural Reports and in the general agricultural and horticultural literature of the day.
