Tourists walk in the meadows of Tosa Maidan. Tosa Maidan is in khag tehsil of Budgam district 70 km (43 miles) west of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian controlled Kashmir. It was leased to the Indian army in 1964 for setting up an artillery firing range in a 50-year lease that ended on 18 April 2014. The Local residents of Tosa Maidan were fighting against the extension of the lease with the state Government and the lease was not renewed and Tosa Maidan was officially opened to visitors from 30 May 2016.
