John Constable was born in 1776 in East Bergholt a village on the River Stour in Suffolk. His most famous painting The Hay Wain shows a horse and cart crossing the millpond with a white cottage on the left bank. Part of Flatford Mill, a watermill, pictured, was one of several mills owned by Constable's father, Golding Constable.
