Dinslaken, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - Emscher estuary into the Rhine. On the right, the construction site of the New Emschermouth in front of the decommissioned STEAG coal-fired power plant Voerde. The mouth of the Emscher into the Rhine will be relocated from Dinslaken to Voerde, almost 500 meters to the north. Fish will then be able to swim barrier-free up the new Emscher from the Rhine through a newly created floodplain. The Emscher has been completely free of wastewater since January 2022 following the construction of a parallel sewer. The river was previously an open, above-ground combined sewer with rainwater and wastewater.
