Be careful tosee that this bush-ing is properly inplace; its duty isto hold the strainerof the inlet bushingin position, as wellas to make the^^ ^^- joint gas-tight. In the regulators now being sent out, however, this loose bushingis done away with, there being altogether fewer parts in makingthe connection between the piping and regulator, and any leakthat may occur will be inside the regulator, so no gas is lost. § 12 CAR LIGHTING. 21 riLIilNG-VALVE BRACKET. 23. The brackets B that carry the filHrig valves arefastened to the side sills with three 2^ X 2 lagscrews, asshown in Fig. 19 (see also Figs. 1 and 14). At (a) is shownone of the brackets separately. When locating these brackets, care should be taken to setthem far enough back to insure that the filling valve does notproject outside of the car body. It will, as a rule, be foundconvenient to put this bracket between the end of the holderand the adjacent needle-beam or cross-tie timber. Havinglocated and bored the holes, next secure the bracket in placetemporarily with a couple of screws, and then insert the con-nection piece C. GAUGE BOX. 24. The next step is to make a box for the gauge; thisgauge box should be provided with a glass face, so that thereading can be taken. This done, screw the box, with gauge init, to the under side of car, as shown in Fig. 14. HIGH-PKESSURE PIPING. 25. Pre
